Haajinen War Chronicles: The Quiet Retreat

New Eden is a galaxy filled with opportunity typically reserved for those who seek it. It’s a portion of space that will often leave you alone if you remain hidden, but eventually conflict will find you. And so it was for Genetisystems on the morning of September 11 when a declaration of war was sent to every member’s personal mailbox.

Brief reconnaissance rendered information on the mercenary corporation that issued the declaration, their members, and their war records. The downside of the information is that they are professional mercenaries. The upside is that their numbers are few.

We decided to rally at our corporate office in Funtanainen, a central rallying point between Oimmo and Vellaine, our traditional hubs. We sent the information to our pilots and notified them of our high level plans.

Suspicion set in.

It is a strange coincidence that in the midst of a recruiting drive that had brought us three new members we would also have a war declaration. New Eden is rampant with spies, thieves, and con artists. To protect ourselves, our CEO and Director decided a new course of action: secrecy.

The notion of a rally point at Funtanainen was secretly discarded and a new point in Haajinen was set. We mobilized for war with the intent of fighting as much on our terms as possible. On old Earth the generals Napoleon and Eisenhower, among others, proved that a well-supplied army is a most effective fighting force.
Where nothing of ours previously existed, a military outpost sprung up, filled with ordnance, ships, and equipment. Our Orca, a symbol of trade and prosperity, was christened not as a vessel of industry but one of war. This massive carrier transported covert ops scouts, anti-frigate destroyers, small, nimble frigates of our own and everything needed to power them.

We began to design simple battle plans. The five of us that comprised the trusted inner circle would combat our two mercenary adversaries with our finest devilry: Covert Operation cloaking vessels to scout and surprise. Electronic Counter Measure equipped frigates designed to jam their radars and frustrate their weapons. Immensely expensive, state of the art Assault Cruisers and reliable Battlecruisers designed to combat any foe.

Based on the still unproven assumption that one or both of our new members were spies we continued to echo “meet at Funtanainen.” We used locator agents and observation to keep tabs on our soon to be assailants who were gathered outside our Corporate Headquarters in Vellaine. Unfortunately for them, Vellaine is 7 Jumps away from Haajinen. If they believe us to still be in Vellaine, they may have made their first mistake.

The grace period has now passed and the war is officially on. Genetisystems is free to engage, and be engaged, in any system we find our targets.
